High Court No. 8 sitting in Maiduguri on Wednesday held the second hearing in a legal dispute between Shehu Mohammed Fanti and MultiChoice Nigeria, with the court seeking further clarification from the plaintiff over allegations of breach of a sealed and signed contractual agreement.
The case, filed under suit number BOHC MG/CV/2025 through a writ of summons dated March 10, 2025, involves claims by Shehu Mohammed Fanti, a retired civil servant, who alleged that MultiChoice Nigeria breached a contractual agreement entered into between both parties.
Testifying under oath before the court, Fanti explained that he subscribed to the defendant’s DSTV services in Maiduguri to access its programming. According to him, the company later required him to meet certain conditions to qualify for additional viewing time and access to extra services.
He told the court that he complied with all the conditions set by the defendant, thereby establishing what he described as a binding contractual agreement between himself and MultiChoice Nigeria.
However, Fanti alleged that despite fulfilling the agreed conditions, the defendant failed to honour the terms of the agreement.
He further informed the court that several attempts to reach the company through its official email channels yielded no response.
The plaintiff therefore urged the court to declare that the defendant’s failure to provide decoder number 1044169201 with three months Compact Plus bouquet and additional extra-view subscription constituted a breach of contract.
Fanti is consequently seeking damages amounting to N250,000,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) for the alleged breach.
During the proceedings, the plaintiff tendered documentary evidence, including payment receipts and other relevant documents, while responding to questions from both the plaintiff’s counsel and the defence team.
Following the submissions, the court adjourned the matter to April 21, 2026, for further hearing.
