Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Yakubu Adamu
Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Yakubu Adamu, in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties of similar value each.
Justice Emeka Nwite, ruling on Adamu’s bail application, ordered that the sureties must be landowners in the Maitama, Asokoro, or Gwarimpa districts of Abuja, with their property documents verified by the court registry. They are also required to depose to an affidavit of means.
The judge further directed that Adamu and his sureties deposit their passports with the court registrar and are prohibited from leaving the country without the court’s permission. Additionally, they must submit two passport photographs to the registrar.
Pending fulfillment of these bail conditions, Justice Nwite instructed that Adamu be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre. The trial has been scheduled to commence on January 20, 2026.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Adamu alongside Ayab Agro Products and Freight Company Ltd, alleging their involvement in a ₦4.65 billion money laundering scheme. According to the EFCC, the funds, provided by Polaris Bank for the supply of motorcycles to the Bauchi State Government, were allegedly misappropriated through Emmanuel Asomugha General Enterprises, in violation of Section 21(a) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Adamu, together with three other Bauchi State workers, also faces separate criminal charges for alleged terrorism financing amounting to $9.7 million, also before Justice Nwite.
