C’River 2023: PDP stakeholders okay Southern Senatorial District for governor

PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, want the next state governor to emerged from the Southern Senatorial District.

The party’s stakeholders stated this on Saturday in a communique issued to newsmen after their meeting which was held at Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.

They deliberated on pertinent issues of immediate concern affecting PDP in Central Senatorial District, and Cross River State in general, and resolved as follows:

“That the Central Senatorial District has provided leadership, direction and strength vital for the consistent success of PDP in the state, and resolved that this role has become even more imperative given the desire of the people of Cross River State to return PDP to power in 2023”

According to the stakeholders, the Central Senatorial District supports the principle of zoning and rotation of political responsibility in the state, and particularly supports the sustenance of the rotation of the governorship of Cross River State following the already established sequence amongst the various senatorial districts.

“That the governorship of Cross River State in 2023, following the established sequence of rotation, should be zoned to the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State; this position is taken in the unshaken confidence that there are members of the party from the Southern Senatorial District with capacity, competence and commitment to lead the state and restore the developmental strides the state was hitherto known for”.

“That party members across the state aspiring for offices and positions of responsibility on the platform of the party should maintain decorum in the conduct of their political activities and ensure that the unity, cohesion and integrity of the party are not compromised”.

They noted that these resolutions are not in support of any particular aspirant and gubernatorial aspirants from the Southern Senatorial District are all encouraged to propagate their aspirations within the bounds of decency, while working to reconcile their various aspirations.
