By PATRICK ABANG Calabar –
Ahead of the governorship elections on March 11, 2023, Students Leadership Forum, National Association of Cross River State Students, NACRISS World Wide and the National Association of Nigerian students NANS and other students bodies in the state have endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC Senator Bassey Otu.
Addressing Journalist at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center in Calabar, the National President of the Forum Edet Benard Boniface, said the students bodies have resolved to support “back to South movement”
According to them, Cross River State has over the years observed and enjoyed zoning in its political system for the purpose of equity, fairness, justice and equal representation.
They argued that since 1999, Cross River State has enjoyed relative peace because Donald Duke was governor from the South in 1999, Liyel Imoke 2007 from the central and Ben Ayade from the north in 2015. So naturally the next governor should come from the South
“Power rotation formula has also been adopted as a guiding principles for power sharing in all our institution and the Sudents Union Government of Cross River State”
“That all over the years, these principles are the basis for peace enjoyed in Cross River State irrespective of the political divide”
“The forum said the only candidate who has fulfilled the power rotation principle in Cross River State is Senator Bassey Otu of the All Progressive Congress APC”
Also speaking, Ambassador Akpanke Peter, said after due consultation of majority opinion, critical stakeholders of Cross River State Students hereby endorsed the APC, Senator Bassey Otu as our governorship candidate for 2023 election.
