Lucky Danjuma has emerged victorious in the male singles category of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Junior J30 Abuja.
Danjuma defeated Oriol Alvarez of Spain 6-0, 6-4 in the final match held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The match was a closely contested one, with Danjuma dominating the first set 6-0 and maintaining his lead in the second set despite Alvarez’s efforts.
“I am satisfied about the outcome of my performance in both the doubles and singles events. I won the doubles title in both first and second legs with my partner, Alvarez. I dedicated these victories to my late parents, expressing emotional connection to the wins,”* Danjuma said after the match.
Danjuma’s path to victory included a strong win over Hugo Jathiere in the quarterfinals (6-1, 6-1) and a dominant performance against Ezekiel Azi in the semifinals (6-2, 6-1). Alvarez, on the other hand, had a thrilling quarterfinal match, coming from behind to beat Oluwatobi Agboola 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(8), and a closely contested semifinal match against Joseph Jimoh, winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(1).
In the female category, Success Ogunjobi emerged victorious, beating Luczak Luise of Germany 6-3, 7-5 to claim the title. The tournament, which started on June 2 and ended on June 14, featured participants from 11 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Germany, South Africa, Egypt, India, Korea, China, Spain, France, and Thailand.
