A lawmaker, Sen. Mohammed Monguno, on Sunday, distributed new laptops and undisclosed amount of money to 500 students to promote e-learning in his constituency.

The lawmaker, representing Northern Borno Senatorial District, presented the laptops and certificates to the beneficiaries in Maiduguri.

He said that the beneficiaries were chosen from the different wards that make up the district.

He also said that the gesture was designed to help launch the district  into the digital age and reduce the high unemployment rate in the state.

“Sequel to this, we see the need to leverage digital knowledge to curb the recurring menace of unemployment in our state, especially our constituency.

“Information and Communication Technology is a major driver of our economy and very critical to our future as a nation,” Monguno said

He advised the beneficiaries to put the laptops into good use and not sell them for immediate short-term gains.

Two beneficiaries, Hafsat Aisami and Umar Bukar-Bulu, of Borno State University and University of Maiduguri, respectively, thanked the lawmaker for the support.

They said that the gesture would go a long way to making their work in school easy. (NAN)
