DSS personnel and suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele
By CALLISTUS OFFOR, Abuja –
The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied arresting Mr. Godwin Emefiele following his suspension as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Social media reports on Friday evening alleged that Mr. Emefiele was currently in the custody of the secret police.
However, in a swift response on Saturday, The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DSS, Mr. Peter Afunanya, said in a terse statement, that: “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
NATIONAL ACCORD had earlier reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Emefiele’s suspension is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms”, the statement said.
