Falsehood that Tiv people entertain visitors with wives buried – Ihaagh

The President General (PG) of Mzough u Tiv worldwide and Chairman Benue State Sociocultural Organisations, CP Iorbee Ihagh retired has said that the falsehood against Tiv man that he offers his wife to his visitor has finally been buried.

Speaking with NATIONAL ACCORD in Makurdi on Wednesday, the President General informed that they were worried by the spread of the falsehood and went to court to challenge it, adding that the court gave judgment in their favour and with the court judgment the falsehood has been put to rest permanently.

It would be recalled that the Mzough u Tiv worldwide dragged the Tiv Area Traditional Council to court. CP Ihagh represented the Mzough u Tiv worldwide while Mr. Shinyi Tyozua represented the Tiv Area Traditional Council with T D Pepe (SAN) as the lead counsel and Chief E.K Ashiekaa (SAN) as lead counsel for Mzough u Tiv and Tiv Area Traditional Council respectively.

The plaintiff had sought a declaration in Rem asserting that under the Tiv native law and custom, a Tiv man does not offer his wife to his visitor for sexual pleasure, amusement. or any other immoral acts.

Again. the plaintiff had sought an order of mandatory injunction requiring the defendant to promptly convene a meeting of (Ijir Tamen) Supreme Council of the Tiv Area Traditional Council for the purpose of initiating and issueing a resolution codifying the principle that under the the Tiv native law and custom a Tiv man does not offer his wife to his visitor for sexual pleasure, amusement or any other immoral acts.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese in his judgment granted the reliefs sought by the plaintiff, saying a Tiv man does not offer his wife to his visitor and also granted an order of mandatory injunction requiring the defendant to promptly convene a meeting of the (Ijir Tamen) Supreme Council of the Tiv Area Traditional Council for the purpose of coming up with a resolution codifying the principle that under the Tiv native law and custom a Tiv man does not offer his wife to his visitor for sexual pleasure, amusement or any other immoral acts.
