FG to implement ‘One for One Replacement’ to address brain drain

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, says the government will implement a “One for One Replacement” to close the gaps of doctors leaving the country.

Ehanire made this known while speaking at the Healthcare Federation Of Nigeria 2023 Annual Conference held in Lagos on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the conference was “Building the Healthcare of Our Future”

“There are lots of doctors in this country who are not employed and some can’t even find a place for residency or internship.

“The level of doctors leaving the country are the senior doctors that are well trained and that is where it hurts.

“We have appeal to the civil service commission to allow a one for one replacement to close the gaps of doctors leaving and the replacements must be on the same level with those that have left.

“We have asked all medical directors to fill these gaps,” he said.

He added that the current brain drain could also be a brain gain for the country.

“Some of our doctors travelled out to garner more knowledge on the technological advancement and expertise, some are back to give back to the country and that is a plus,” he said.

NAN reports that the HFN two-day conference will end on Saturday. (NAN)
