Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated one billion naira to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State with a call for immediate end of insecurity in Benue State.
The first lady also provided relief materials to cushion the effect of the sufferings of the victim and assured that she would continue to support those in need particularly people with disabilities.
Senator Tinubu made the donation on Tuesday during a sympathy visit to Benue State over the recent massacre of over 200 people in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The wife of the President, who emphasized the importance of peace and dialogue in tackling crisis which had bedeviled the state for more than one decade and also appealed for unity and solidarity among the people to enable them combat senseless killings that have continued unabated.
In his comment, the Chairman Benue State Traditional Council and Tor Tiv, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, called on the federal government to take decisive action against all forms of terrorism in Benue and Nasarawa States.
Tor Tiv emphasized the need for reconstruction of destroyed communities as well as provision of compensation for the victims.
The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in his remarks reiterated his call for the establishment of a state police and a national policy on ranching to address the insecurity being experienced in the State.
Governor Alia appreciated Senator Tinubu for her visit and commitment to national solidarity in the face of the ongoing crisis affecting over 1.5 million displaced individuals in Benue State.
