Group urges Imo Govt to secure release of abducted ex-lawmaker

Hon. Lawman Duruji was kidnapped by gunmen at Ehime Mbano LGA on Saturday at Oriagu while returning from a function.

Nsu Development Union (NDU) has called on the Imo State Government to order the security agencies to intensify their efforts in securing the release of Honorable Lawman Duruji, a former Speaker and member Imo State House of Assembly, who was abducted by unknown gunmen on Saturday at Umuezeala, Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA of the state.

The union made the call in a letter dated Tuesday, 11th January, 2022 , which was addressed to the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.

The letter was signed by the President General of NDU, Comrade Ikechukwu Chukwunyere and The Secretary General of NDU, Barr Mike Onyekachi

A copy of the letter which was sighted by NATIONAL ACCORD was titled: Abduction Of Rt. Honourable Lawman Duruji, A Call For His Safety And Quick Intervention By The State Government and Security Agencies.

According to the letter: “It is a notorious fact that our brother and son Rt. Honorable Lawman Duruji former Speaker and member Imo State House of Assembly was abducted by unknown Gunmen on Saturday, 8th January, 2022 at Umuezeala, Nsu, Ehime Mbano. He has not been released since then”.

“We have been in fervent prayers for his safety and quick release as no contact is yet to be made with the supposed abductors”.

“We appeal to the State Government to move the security agencies so as to intensify their efforts for his timely release and in good health”.

“We know that insecurity is a general problem in Nigeria but we will not loose trust in God and faith in our government”, the letter reads in part.

The group, however, called on every well meaning individual to remain in prayer and also appealed to the State Government and security agencies to nip in the bud this ugly trend now ravaging the society.

The letter was also copied to The Minister of Education (STATE), Commissioner of Police Imo State, the Director of SSS Imo State, Senator Frank Ibezim (Senator representing Okigwe Zone) and 4 traditional rulers in Nsu Clan.
