No fewer than two young people were killed following an attack by gunmen on Toro town, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State in the early hours of Friday.

Our correspondent learnt that the gunmen also kidnapped one person during the attack which happened between 1.20am and 2.30am on Friday morning.

The exact number of the gunmen is yet-to-be known as of the time of filing this report.

A source who spoke in confidence said that the incident lasted for over two hours and no security operatives came to repel them “except only the local vigilantes that were left helpless as they tried to repel them but were overpowered by the assailants who were heavily armed.”

The sources added that: “At the end of the operation, “two people who are promising youths, Abba and Anas Wanzam were brutally killed by the gunmen. The two had come out to join the vigilantes to repel the gunmen when they were shot.

“The one person kidnapped by the gunmen is AdulRahman Abdulrahman Danmalam who is also said to be a hardworking youth in the area.”

The source, therefore, called on the government to be more proactive to protect lives and properties of residents of the area “who have been terrorized by bandits and other criminal elements marauding in the forests that surround the LGA in recent times.”

Efforts to get a confirmation from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls to the Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, were not answered.
