Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has disclosed that he inherited an empty treasury when he assumed office as governor in May 29, 2023.
The governor said, civil servants and pensioners were being owed several months of salaries as well as pensions.
Governor Yusuf, who made the disclosure in Abuja during the National Executive Council meeting of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), further said Kano was in darkness as majority of the streets had no light.
“Am happy to announce to you that we have started rehabilitation work and we are eighty percent done with the city” he said.
He said being the only governor of the NNPP in Nigeria, he will strive to work hard to ensure that other states fall in line.
Yusuf said he is happy NNPP is one of the leading opposition party in Nigeria, but advised party faithfuls to work hard ahead of Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states off season elections.
Earlier, acting National Chairman of NNPP, Ali Abba Kawu, informed members that the party is on a mission to reposition all the structures from ward to national levels, as he informed NEC members that some erring members, who were suspended last month have ganged up to form opposition against the party.
Kawu further charged all states chairmen to put more efforts in making sure the party gets acceptance at their respective states.
At the end of the proceedings, Boniface Aniebonam and Agbo Major along with some states chairmen were formally expelled by the NEC members, who did not oppose the motion move by the national legal advice.
