The Innovative College of Education located in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State yesterday matriculated 30 students in to four departments with a 61 year old retired civil servant Mr. Samuel Okeke also taking matriculation oath as one of the students.
In his welcome address, the proprietor of the college, Dr. Godwin Oladejobi urged the students to take their studies serious so that their stay in school would not be in vain.
Dr. Oladejobi assured them that management of the college is determined to give them the best as learning equipment’s and qualified teachers are on ground to impact on them positively.
In his speech, the provost of the college, Dr.Joshua Maro said matriculation ceremony is an annual ritual performed by schools and recognised by the government, of which their college has also been recognised by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
He advised the matriculating students to shun all forms of social vices like cultism and examination malpractices.
In an interview, The Registrar of the college, Dr. Andrew Kayode expressed happiness that the college has been approved by the government and advised students to settle down quickly to commence their studies, adding that they can boast of qualified and dedicated staff as well as an equiped library and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center.
The registrar explained that the institution has commenced academic activities in The Department of School of Education, School of Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences.
In his key note address, the guest speaker at the occasion Dr. Frank Chigoziem who spoke on the theme “” Be the Light” urged the students to consider educationon as light and should work hard so that their light would one day shine for all to see.
Dr. Chigoziem advised the matriculating students to exhibit good character, study hard and make maximum use of the opportunity provided to them by the college.
