Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, is expected to formally defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, according to a report by DAILY NIGERIAN.
Yusuf, currently the only governor elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has reportedly arrived in Abuja ahead of the final arrangements for his planned switch to the APC.
Sources with knowledge of the development, said the governor will be received in the nation’s capital by Vice President Kashim Shettima and the APC National Chairman, Yitwalda Nentawe, as part of the defection process.
In Kano, preparations are already underway to formally welcome the governor into the party.
The APC leader in the state and former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was said to have been recalled from a trip to Dubai, while the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, was asked to cut short his lesser hajj pilgrimage.
According to the sources, Abbas is expected to issue Yusuf’s APC membership card at his Diso Ward in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State later in the week, marking the completion of the governor’s defection to the ruling party.
