Kano Pillars Football Club has suspended Technical Adviser Ogenyi Evans and Chief Coach Ahmed Garba following a disappointing run in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The club’s management announced the decision on Monday through its Media and Communications Directorate in Kano, describing the move as necessary to “reposition the team for better results.”
After eight league matches, Kano Pillars have managed just two wins, two draws, and four losses — a performance the club deemed unsatisfactory.
“In the interim, former club captain and Assistant Coach, Mr. Gambo Muhammad, together with Goalkeeping Coach Suleiman Shuaibu, will assume technical responsibilities,” the statement said. Additionally, Coach Garzali Muhammad from the Junior Pillars will assist the interim team on an ad-hoc basis until further notice.
The management thanked fans for their unwavering support and assured them that steps are being taken to revive the team’s fortunes.
The challenges facing Kano Pillars extend beyond poor results. The club recently received sanctions from the NPFL following crowd disturbances during their home fixture against Shooting Stars. As punishment, Kano Pillars will play their next 10 home games behind closed doors in Katsina and pay a ₦9.5 million fine. Furthermore, the league docked them three points and three goals for the ongoing season.
On Match Day 9, the team suffered a 2-1 loss to newly promoted Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano — Barau’s adopted home ground. Although veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali gave Pillars an early lead in the 20th minute, Ibrahim Yahaya equalised from the penalty spot, and Stanley Okafor Oganbor scored the winner in the 75th minute.
The poor run and league penalties have increased pressure on Kano Pillars’ coaching staff and management, as the team battles for consistency and currently sits 20th in the league table.
