23-year-old suspect, Charity Williams
In a significant crackdown on crime, the Kogi State Police Command apprehended a 23-year-old woman, Charity Williams, identified as the girlfriend of a suspected armed robber, Christopher Christopher-Kadiri.
The arrest, which took place at a hotel in Okene Local Government Area, led to the recovery of a locally made Berretta pistol, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, N2.04 million in cash, an axe, hard drugs, and four mobile phones.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the operation was spurred by a tip-off about a suspected criminal hideout at Yuwander Lodge in Oguda village, Okene.
“Immediately, the police swung into action and raided the lodge,” Ovye-Aya stated, adding that a search of a room booked by Christopher-Kadiri resulted in Williams’ arrest and the seizure of the incriminating items.
Ovye-Aya, further, revealed that efforts are underway to capture Christopher-Kadiri, who remains at large, as the investigation continues.
In a separate operation, police operatives from the Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun, a cutlass, and a Techno phone at Ogbakpedo village along the Itobe-Ayingba road.
This followed a tip about suspected kidnappers in the area, who fled upon spotting the police patrol team.
“A search of the area led to the recovery of these items,” Ovye-Aya noted.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Miller Dantawaye, praised the officers for their commitment, with Ovye-Aya quoting him as saying, “We remain resolute in our fight against criminality in Kogi State.”
