Kwara Govt increases students’ bursary award

Kwara State Government is to upwardly review student Indigenes bursary award from five thousand naira to ten thousand naira.

The state’s Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Afees Abolore- Alabi confirmed this while featuring on the 34th Edition Media Parliament organized by Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held at Press Centre, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Dr. Abolore- Alabi hinted that the beneficiaries of the bursary increment cut across students Indigenes in state, federal and private higher institutions nationwide

He explained that the state government would soon open portal for registration for the students to fast-track onward implementation of new bursary increment.

On viability of state institutions, the Commissioner said Kwara state owned citadel of learnings are virtually autonomous as their financing is prioritized by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Dr. Abolore-Alabi also announced that all state tertiary institutions have been strengthened to actualize their core mandates of teaching, learning research and Community Development.

Chairman, Kwara State Council of NUJ, Comrade Abdulateef Ahmed, frowned over poor products being turned out by tertiary institutions in the country and called for total overhauling of education sector to grow the nation.
