France has pledged deeper security cooperation with Nigeria as President Emmanuel Macron has said his country stands firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in confronting the nation’s growing security threats.
In a message posted on his X handle, Macron revealed that he had a direct conversation with President Tinubu, during which he expressed France’s full support as Nigeria battles terrorism and other security challenges, especially in the northern region.
“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT,” Macron wrote.
“I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North.”
Macron confirmed that France would intensify its collaboration with Nigerian authorities, noting that the decision follows a request from President Tinubu for enhanced partnership and support for communities affected by insecurity.
“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations,” he said.
The French President also issued a call to action to the international community, urging global partners to rise to the occasion and not leave Nigeria to shoulder the burden alone.
“We call on all our partners to step up their engagement.
“No one can remain a spectator,” Macron declared.
His remarks come at a time Nigeria seeks stronger international alliances to counter rising security threats, with France now signaling readiness to play a more active role in the country’s stabilization efforts.
