Members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appealed to all the three tiers of government to collaborate for the purpose of finding solution to the lingering insecurity in the country.

Members of NMA who are in Jos for their 61st Annual Scientific Conference and Delegates Meeting made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong in Government House, Rayfield Jos.

Led by its president, Prof Innocent Ujah, the NMA said they decided to send their appeals to other stakeholders across the country through Governor Lalong, because he has been a model of peace and security in Plateau state.

Professor Ujah said: “The NMA is hosting the event in Plateau because of the substantial peace that has returned to State due to the efforts of the Lalong administration. There is confidence in the State as many members had no reservations or fears coming to Plateau State”.

“While we appreciate gov Lalong for accepting to host over one thousand of us in Jos for a week-long program, we are very concerned like every other Nigerians on the prevailing security situation in the country”.

“The general insecurity in many parts of the nation is very worrisome to medical doctors and other health workers that are not only affected, but find it difficult and unsafe to offer their services to those in need”.

In his remarks, Governor Lalong who thanked the NMA for the visit, assured them that his administration is determined to sustain the peace in the State which is the number one priority of the government.

Governor Lalong also reiterated his administration’s plan to establish health facilities in the State, while encouraging medical tourism because of the natural endowments of the State and hospitable environment.
