Airline passengers across Nigeria have expressed renewed confidence in flight safety following the successful conclusion of the Flight Calibration Exercise by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
The exercise, which marked another critical step in strengthening aviation safety standards in the country, was formally concluded at a Checkout Ceremony held at the Technical Building of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The event brought together key stakeholders from across the aviation sector and was organised in collaboration with NAMA’s technical partners, AFIS LTD UK.
Welcoming participants to the ceremony, the General Manager of Calibration, Engr. Miri Selzing, described the exercise as vital to enhancing Nigeria’s aviation safety architecture, noting that it also plays a strategic role in promoting the country’s technical independence in air navigation services.
Earlier, in his keynote address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAMA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, commended the pilots involved in the operation for their uncommon professionalism and resilience throughout the demanding calibration exercise.
Engr. Farouk maintained that the successful completion of the exercise represents a significant milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous aviation capacity. In recognition of their outstanding performance, he presented new epaulettes and Certificates of Honour to the pilots who participated in the calibration process.
While expressing his utmost gratitude to stakeholders within the aviation industry for their support, the NAMA boss also acknowledged Mr. Oyedele Oluwaseun Jubril, a former Air Radar Traffic Controller, and Mr. Ajijola Abdul Kareem, a former Air Traffic Engineer, as newly type-rated pilots produced by the agency.
Speaking at the conclusion of the event, one of the stakeholders observed that Nigeria’s aviation industry is recording steady progress, attributing the gains to the professional leadership qualities of Engr. Farouk. According to him, the NAMA Managing Director has remained deeply committed to the continuous development of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.
