Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has commended the efforts of the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Mohammed Kasim, assuring him of full support of the assembly.
The Speaker, made this known when when he played host to the executive chairman and management of the Board in his office today in Lafia.
The speaker, who commended the Executive Chairman of the board for hitting the ground running, pledged the commitment of the House to synergise with SUBEB and give it all the necessary support for improved standard of education in the state.
Dr. Jatau appreciated the SUBEB Chairman and his management team for the familiarization visit and also for condoling with him over the death of his younger sister, Hajaratu.
“I am happy with the visit and I want to commend you on the positive steps you have taken towards reviving primary education in the State. As primary education is the foundation, once you get it wrong, forget about it,” he said.
Speaker Jatau also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule, for his passion and interest in the education sector in the State, saying “I want to appreciate Gov. Sule for his passion and interest in the education sector.
“We will synergy with the Executive arm to ensure the development of education and other sectors in the state. We must work together with His Excellency and you to revive our primary education” he added.
The Speaker called on other arms of government to respect and fully implement laws passed by the House.
“On the total supervision and proper management of Junior Secondary schools, Go and get what belong to you, the laws are their, ours is to make the laws and other arms are there to implement and interpret.
“On the establishment of private schools, we will synergize with you to see that only those who are qualified are permitted to operate” the Speaker said.
Earlier, The Executive Chairman of Nasarawa SUBEB, said that the visit was to condole with the Speaker over the death of his younger sister, Hajaratu.
Dr. Kassim also said the visit was also to appreciate the Speaker for the role he played during their screening and confirmation as Chairman and members of the board.
The Board Chairman disclosed that the board has revoked 9 contracts and suspended two contracts over poor jobs by some contractors in the state.
“We are here to register our loyalty and to say thank you for our previous screening and confirmation as Chairman and members of the board. Our objective is to build and promote Gov. Sule’s education policy towards ensuring that we maintained standard in our primary schools.
“Mr Speaker, we want to disclose here that we have revoked 9 contracts and suspend two contracts over low standard,” he said.
