National President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Reverend Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo
Borno South Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has expressed optimism that the re-election of Reverend Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo as National President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) will help unite the Christian community and believers across Nigeria.
Reverend Mohzo, a cousin of Senator Ndume from Ngoshe-Sama, a remote village in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, made history as the first non-indigenous leader to hold the position, traditionally reserved for Plateau State indigenes.
His re-election marks a rare second tenure for a clergyman outside the Plateau region.
COCIN, established in 1904 in Wase, Plateau State, has grown to become one of Nigeria’s prominent Christian denominations.
Senator Ndume, who comes from a family with both Muslim and Christian roots, described Rev. Mohzo’s victory as a milestone not just for Gwoza and Borno State, but for the entire nation.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ndume congratulated COCIN members in Nigeria and the diaspora for entrusting Rev. Mohzo with leadership once again.
“The re-election of Reverend Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo as National President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) will serve as an avenue to unite members of the Christian community and other faithfuls in Nigeria,” Ndume said.
“It will interest you to know that Rev. Mohzo is my cousin brother who hails from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Therefore, myself having come from both Muslim and Christian family, I described the victory not only to the good people of Gwoza and Borno State, but the entire country.
“This is because the National President is somebody I know with integrity, honesty, and an unquestionable character. He is a man of deep humility, unshakable faith, and steadfast dedication to the service of God and humanity, which I believe, was the reason he was given the second chance to lead the noble Church.
“Let me also use this opportunity to congratulate all members of COCIN in Nigeria and those in the diaspora, for giving Reverend Mohzo a second chance irrespective of where he hails from.”
The Senator also prayed for divine wisdom and guidance for Rev. Mohzo as he embarks on his second tenure.
Born on November 13, 1964, Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo rose from humble beginnings to attain one of the most respected positions in Nigerian Christianity, reflecting both his dedication and the trust placed in him by the faithful.
