The Network of Civil Society Organizations Borno State (NECSOB) has pledged to collaborate with the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall (BSAGW) to combat climate change and promote sustainable development in the state.
During a congratulatory visit to Ambassador Usman Aliyu, the newly appointed Director General of BSAGW, NECSOB expressed its commitment to working together on initiatives such as climate change mitigation, community-based afforestation, and smart agricultural practices.
NECSOB Executive Director, Ambassador Bulama Abiso commended Governor Babagana Zulum for appointing a committed and competent member of the civil society community to lead the agency, reaffirming the governor’s recognition of grassroots stakeholders in climate governance.
Abiso highlighted that civil society organizations in the state have proven reach and community trust to support the agency’s mandate effectively.
In response, Director General Ambassador Usman Aliyu described the visit as a homecoming and expressed gratitude to NECSOB for the gesture.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve as a worthy ambassador of the network within the government structure and to champion initiatives that enhance environmental sustainability and community resilience.
The DG called on NECSOB to submit a community-based proposal on tree planting for possible joint implementation, emphasizing the need for practical and inclusive approaches to environmental protection.
The visit included a tour of the agency’s afforestation nursery beds and smart agriculture demonstration farm, where members witnessed ongoing innovative practices aimed at combating desertification and promoting food security.
