News Central’ North East Correspondent, Umaru Yakubu Kirawa, has received the 2025 prestigious “Humanitarian Journalist of the Year” award from El‑Faruq Foundation in a ceremony held today in Abuja.
The Founder and Executive Director of El-Faruq Foundation, Umar Ahmad, praised Umaru Kirawa’s courageous human angle style of storytelling and show of unwavering commitment to bring to the fore the effects , hardships and sufferings of the resilient displaced people affe tes by the insurgency .
He has consistently demonstrated commitment, dedication, and perseverance in his reporting on humanitarian activities, particularly those targeting displaced individuals. The Founder acknowledged his courageous field reporting and humanitarian advocacy, noting that this prestigious award culminates a career focused on amplifying the voices of those in conflict zones, especially in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, and other parts of the Northeast.
The El-Faruq Foundation had previously honored Umaru Kirawa for his fearless reporting in conflict zones and the significant humanitarian impact of his work, both nationally and internationally.
The award ceremony brought together families, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to celebrate Kirawa’s contributions across the Northeast region, including communities along the Lake Chad Basin and in states such as Yobe, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa, highlighting the resilience and hope of those affected by insurgency.
