Nigeria Police Force has recorded another breakthrough in its campaign against economic sabotage with the arrest of seven suspected pipeline vandals during a coordinated operation in Adamawa State.
The operation, carried out by the Adamawa State Police Command in partnership with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering, also led to the recovery of 285 sections of suspected vandalised pipelines and other equipment believed to have been used in the illegal activities.
According to a statement issued by the Force, the operation followed credible intelligence that led operatives to a suspected hideout in Kwarami, located in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of the state.
During the raid, the police arrested seven suspects and recovered 285 pipeline sections suspected to have been vandalised. Officers also seized six gas cylinders, shovels and other digging tools allegedly used by the suspects to tamper with critical national infrastructure.
The Force said investigations have been intensified to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate who escaped during the operation.
It added that the seven suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s critical assets, the Nigeria Police Force urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid efforts to combat pipeline vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage across the country.
