
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has unveiled a statue of renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe at Ugwunwasike Roundabout in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Speaking during the ceremony on Saturday, Soludo described Achebe as a global literary icon whose influence continues to inspire people around the world, 13 years after his death.
The governor said his administration would continue to preserve Achebe’s legacy while supporting programmes that encourage the rise of future writers in Anambra State.
Soludo said, “Achebe represents excellence and remains one of the world’s greatest literary figures.
“We will continue to support initiatives that inspire the emergence of more Achebes in Idemili North and Anambra State.”
The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and literary enthusiasts, including Idemili North Mayor Stanley Nkwoka.
Nkwoka described both Achebe and Governor Soludo as world-class personalities whose achievements have brought pride and recognition to Anambra State.
Achebe became internationally famous with his 1958 novel Things Fall Apart, which has been translated into many languages and remains one of Africa’s most widely studied books.
The new monument is expected to preserve Achebe’s legacy, promote cultural heritage, and boost literary tourism in Ogidi, the hometown of the celebrated autho
