NBA President, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), following the conclusion of the association’s 2026 national elections.
Her victory marks a significant milestone in the history of the NBA, as she becomes the first woman to be elected to the association’s highest office and only the second woman to lead the legal body.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), Aham Ejelam (SAN), officially announced the results on Sunday at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to the committee, Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total valid votes cast, defeating fellow Senior Advocates Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), who polled 7,934 votes (30.39 per cent), and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), who received 5,855 votes (22.43 per cent).
The ECNBA disclosed that 26,184 lawyers participated in the election out of 82,172 eligible voters, translating to a voter turnout of 31.86 per cent.
The exercise also produced winners for other national executive positions that will oversee the affairs of the association during the 2026–2028 tenure.
Badejo-Okusanya will take over from Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) as the association’s president.

Northern Zone Representative: Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim – 13,327 votes
The newly elected executives are expected to assume office and provide leadership for the Nigerian Bar Association over the next two years, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the new administration will strengthen the legal profession and advance reforms within the association.
