Nigeria Immigration Service leveraging technology to safeguard its borders – CG

The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has said that the service has been deployed technology to safeguard the nation’s land borders.

Nandap stated this when she paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau on Wednesday in Jos.

The comptroller, who said that Nigerian borders were safer than before, added that the service had adopted some innovative initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of all land borders and Nigerians.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure our borders are safe because the safety of Nigerians is our priority.

‘’We are leveraging technology, innovations and other laudable initiatives, and I can assure you that our borders are now safer than before,’’ she said

Nandap also promised to resuscitate Departments of Immigrations (DIOs) in the Local Government Areas (LGAs) toward ensuring the safety of Nigerians particularly those in the rural areas.

The comptroller, who thanked Plateau government for the support over the years, explained that she was in Jos to participate in the conference organised by the service.

According to her the conference would provide NIS the opportunity to brainstorm on issues toward bettering its operations and service delivery.

Responding, Mutfwang, represented by Mr Samuel Jatau, the Secretary to the State Government, thanked the NIS for the choice of Plateau to hold its conference.

‘’This simply means that Plateau is peaceful and people can come and set up their businesses here anytime without fear,’’he said

The governor, however, urged the NIS to establish more passports offices in the state, insisting that the existing ones were grossly inadequate.

He called on the service to support the state government in its bid to identify and repatriate the growing number of illegal immigrants in the state. (NAN)
