Barely 12 hours after the National Economic Council (NEC), warned Nigerians against complacency in the management of the COVID-1 pandemic, 131 new infections were recorded across the country on Thursday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which announced the new cases via its official twitter handle @NCDCgov, also said that the total number of confirmed infections in the country stood at 56,735.
According to the health agency, out of the 56,735 infections, a total of 48,092 cases had so far been treated and discharged, while 1,093 deaths had been recorded.
It further gave a break-down of the 131 new cases, which shows that Lagos recorded 45 infections, followed by Kaduna with 17, Plateau-17, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)-16.
The remaining cases came from Delta-6, Niger-6, Kwara-5, Oyo-3, Akwa Ibom-2, Cross River-2, Ekiti-2, Enugu-2, Osun-2, Sokoto-2, Bauchi-1, Ebonyi-1, Katsina-1, and Rivers-1.
Earlier in the day, the NEC, rose from its September meeting in Abuja, urging Nigerians to remain alert and maintain the precautions necessary to fight the infectious disease, COVID-19.
This, according to the NEC, was in a bid to prevent a complacent attitude in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Accordingly, the Council at its virtual meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, resolved that as long as people are still getting infected, Nigerians should maintain the use of non-pharmaceutical measures and precautions, so that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country are not heightened.
