Nigerian football fans in Enugu State have expressed their optimism on the chances of the Super Eagles winning the ongoing TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 trophy.

The fans stated this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.

Frank Nweke said he was highly optimistic that the Super Eagles would win the trophy, if they continue to up their game as seen against Cameroon.

“I am very positive the Eagles are going to clinch the cup, especially if they work harder because all the big names in African Football have been shown the way out.

“Apart from Cote d`Ivoire, there is no other big football nation remaining; so, Nigeria stands the chance to win it the fourth time in history, ” Nweke said.

Amember of Coal City Football Legends, Okechukwu Ogazimora, said with the exit of all North African teams from the tournament, it is Nigeria’s best chance.

“This cup is for Nigeria to lose because all the football powerhouses in Africa have exited; so, it is ours this time I believe, ” he said.

Ogazimora, however, cautioned the Eagles against complacency, saying that no team should be taken for granted.

Chidi Umeadi, a former player with Vasco Dagama football club of Enugu, said he predicted Senegal/Morocco final before but now “I am predicting Nigeria/South Africa.”

“Senegal, the defending champion, Morocco, the best ranked team in Africa, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Egypt and Ghana have all kissed the 2023 AFCON goodbye.

“I don’t see anyone stopping Nigeria, ” Umeadi said.

Roseline Edeh, said though the Eagles did not play well in their first two games, they, however, picked up in the match against Cameroon.

“They are blending well and having stayed together for about two weeks now, we are going to see the best of the Eagles against the Palanca Negras of Angola,” she said.

NAN reports that the Eagles will play Angola on Friday in the quarter final of the competition by 6pm Nigerian time, at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d`Ivoire.(NAN)
