
Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has confirmed that a reported breach on a section of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) in South West Warri, Delta State, has been successfully contained, with no threat to host communities, personnel or the environment.
The incident, which was recorded on Thursday, December 11, 2025, prompted an immediate response from technical teams, resulting in the isolation of all affected pipeline sections.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd, Andy Odeh, said In a statement on Monday, said the“coordinated containment measures have been successfully executed, ensuring the safety of host communities, personnel, and the environment,” adding that the compromised sections of the pipeline were “safely and securely isolated.”
Odeh disclosed that a joint preliminary inspection had already been carried out at the site. The exercise involved technical teams from the company, the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), as well as maintenance contractors, to assess the situation and guide next steps.
Accordimg to him, to manage any operational impact, NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), which operates the pipeline network, has activated its Business Continuity Plan.
He said this move is aimed at cushioning the effect on all affected stakeholders, including gas shippers and suppliers.
NNPC Ltd spokesperson also reassured the public of its continued engagement with key stakeholders, noting that it has maintained open communication with host communities, state authorities and other relevant parties since the incident occurred.
The company expressed appreciation for the cooperation and support received so far, stressing its commitment to safety, environmental protection and operational reliability.
“NNPC Ltd continues to maintain open communication with host communities, state authorities, and other critical stakeholders, and appreciates their sustained support and cooperation,” the statement read.
Odeh said the update reaffirmed the company’s resolve to safeguard its assets while ensuring the protection of people and the environment across its operations.
