The spiritual leader of The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Olumba Olumba Obu
PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The Spiritual Head of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu has formally declared open one week of charity and mercy activities.
The week commences from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 October 2021 and will hold in all branches of the fold.
The events are to be anchored by a group called Christ Universal Mercy Fellowship (CUMF) which is an arm of the spiritual organisation.
The spiritual leader called on all his adherents to be committed to the activities earmarked for the week as the hallmarks of God and His precepts are all about having mercy and compassion to fellow men, especially those afflicted and in need.
Addressing the faithful, Obu said: “You must put on a a merciful heart towards humanity. Do you think there is another salvation except Mercy? It is the mercy which is used in judgment and nothing else..”
He urged them to support and be part of Mercy Week 2021.
International chairman of the CUMF, Her Eminence Ronke Joseph Aluko said they are celebrating their 45th anniversary with focus on humanitarian activities.
She noted that in addition to using the words of God, the group would pay visits to welfare centres, including handing out foodstuffs and clothing materials to the less privileged members of the society.
Aluko said just like what they did last year, where the branches of Mercy Felllowship all over Nigeria, in Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda, South Africa, UK and USA empowered youths and women as well as conducted open kitchen, same would be replicated this year.
Chairman of the planning committee, Archbishop Eric Lazarus Iyango said the climax of all the humanitarian efforts would be at their world headquarters, 34 Ambo Street Calabar where dignitaries, guests and mammoth crowd of their members will converge on Saturday 30 October for a fundraising to prosecute charity works in prisons, hospitals and orphanages.
