Former PDP National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu
By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja-
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary, in a dramatic U-turn.
The announcement was made by the acting National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, at a press briefing held at the PDP headquarters in Abuja.
Damagum, flanked by prominent party members, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, described the decision to accept Anyanwu’s reinstatement as “difficult”.

“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary, that is why I said it was a critical decision,” Damagum said.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for June 30th, has been canceled. Instead, the party will hold an expanded Caucus meeting, where decisions leading to a proper NEC meeting will be taken.
“We will have an expanded Caucus, at the next Caucus we will take a decision leading to a proper NEC,” Damagum explained.
The development comes after PDP leaders held a meeting with Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Tuesday. The meeting’s outcome likely influenced the party’s decision to reinstate Anyanwu
The reinstatement of Anyanwu, a close ally of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, is seen as a significant development in the party’s internal dynamics.
The move is likely to have implications for the party’s leadership and future direction.
