Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba’s latest attempt to get his career back on track has suffered another setback after he and AS Monaco mutually agreed to terminate his contract, leaving the 33-year-old midfielder a free agent.
Pogba had joined Monaco in June 2025 hoping to rebuild his career after serving an 18-month doping suspension and enduring a prolonged spell away from competitive football. But what was meant to be a fresh start in France never really got going.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder managed just six appearances for Monaco, starting only one game and playing a total of 115 minutes. He finished the spell without a goal or assist.
His competitive return finally came in November 2025, more than two years after his previous competitive appearance, but injuries and fitness setbacks again disrupted his efforts to regain a regular place in the side.
For a player who once stood at the heart of France’s midfield during their 2018 World Cup triumph and enjoyed some of his finest years at Juventus, the numbers tell a difficult story.
Pogba’s Monaco chapter was supposed to be about proving that the player who could dominate midfield, pick out long passes and drive through opponents was still there. Instead, he leaves after barely getting enough time on the pitch to make his mark.
His exit also raises fresh questions about what comes next.
MLS and Saudi Pro League clubs have reportedly made approaches in recent weeks, giving Pogba potential routes away from Europe if he decides to continue his career elsewhere. But for any interested club, his Monaco spell presents an obvious concern: can he remain fit long enough to contribute consistently?
That could make the next move more important than simply finding another club. At 33, Pogba no longer has the luxury of time to slowly rebuild his career.
He now needs regular football, a sustained run of fitness and, perhaps most importantly, the chance to remind the football world that his best years are not entirely behind him.
For now, though, his Monaco experiment ends with just 115 minutes, six appearances, one start, zero goals and zero assists.
The next chapter could determine whether Pogba’s career gets one more serious revival or gradually fades away from the level at which he once belonged.
