In a decisive response to a deadly inter-cult clash in Lekki Phase 1, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended 23 individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of three people.
The incident, which took place on Sunday along Wole Olateju Street, prompted swift action from law enforcement.
According to the command’s spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin,, “The clash occurred at a security duty post on an uninhabited open land, involving members of rival cult groups.”
He confirmed that a discreet investigation has been launched to uncover the full details of the violent encounter.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh personally led joint police teams to the scene to restore order.
“Prompt and extensive raids on criminal hideouts and blackspots across Lekki were conducted, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects connected with the clash,” Hundeyin disclosed.
The operation involved the newly established Anti-Cultism Team and tactical units under the Elemoro Area Command.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, a military camouflage cap, two cutlasses, wraps of Indian hemp, a charm, and three hemp crushers. “These exhibits are critical evidence in our ongoing investigation,” Hundeyin noted.
To bolster security, the command has implemented new crime prevention measures in Lekki and surrounding areas.
“Some Divisional Police Officers have been redeployed to strengthen crime control and ensure faster responses to distress calls,” the spokesperson explained.
Additionally, the specialized Eko Strike Force has been deployed to combat criminal activities in the region.
Hundeyin reassured residents that the situation is under control, stating, “The security situation in the Lekki-Ajah axis is stable, and normalcy has been fully restored.”
He encouraged the public to resume lawful activities without fear, emphasizing that “crime in Lekki is not alarming.”
The police have vowed to prosecute all suspects found with dangerous weapons or linked to the killings.
Hundeyin urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly, either at the nearest police station or via the command’s emergency lines, to ensure sustained safety and security in the area.
