Federal Capital Territory Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation following the tragic death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a respected news anchor and reporter with Arise Television.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Maduagwu was fatally attacked during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the media community and the nation at large.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu was widely recognized for her dedication to journalism, consistently delivering insightful news coverage with professionalism and integrity.
Colleagues remember her as a passionate storyteller who had built a reputation for fearlessly covering critical social and political issues.
Describing the attack as “a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a civilized society,” FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ajao Adewale, has ordered a discreet and comprehensive probe into the circumstances of her death.
“To this end, we have deployed intelligence and operational units to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime,” Adeh said.
She reassured the public that justice would be served and emphasized the police command’s unwavering commitment to public safety.
“We urge the public to support our efforts by providing any useful information that could aid the investigation,” she added.
The police also appealed for vigilance among residents, advising people to promptly report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar tragedies.
