Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old man, identified as Usman Isyaku, for alleged involvement in an armed robbery in Minna.
A toy gun and a stolen cellphone were reportedly recovered from the suspect.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed this in a statement issued in Minna on Thursday.
According to Abiodun, on October 24, at about 8 a.m., officers at the Rijau Division received a report that some masked men had stormed a residence in Rijau around 1 p.m., robbing the occupant of an Infinix phone, a motorcycle, shop keys, and cash.
“The robbers later went to the victim’s shop, where they stole more money and other valuables,” Abiodun said.
Following the report, police operatives launched an investigation using technical intelligence, which led to the arrest of Usman Isyaku of Rijau in connection with the incident.
During interrogation, Isyaku reportedly confessed to the crime and mentioned that two accomplices were still on the run.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of several items, including “one toy gun, one Infinix phone stolen from the victim, a cutlass, an ATM card, a motorcycle tyre, a tyre tube, and some illicit drugs,” according to the police statement.
Abiodun added that the suspect remains in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects.
He emphasized that the arrest reflects the command’s continuous efforts to tackle crime and ensure public safety across Niger State.
