Crime suspect in police handcuff
By BARBRA KALU, Enugu –
Enugu State Police apprehend a 30-year-old suspect, Raymond Wonna, for alleged transnational human trafficking, rescuing two young women en route to Ghana.
The victims, both 18 and from Yala Local Government Area in Cross River State, were intercepted on July 30 by the Crack Tactical Squad during a routine patrol along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, according to a statement by police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe.
Investigations revealed that Wonna, a self-proclaimed casual worker, deceived the victims with promises of restaurant jobs in Ghana without their families’ consent.
He also allegedly attempted to sexually assault them while they were lodged in a hotel awaiting their departure.
The rescued women have been reunited with their families, and authorities are pursuing other members of the trafficking syndicate.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa praised the operatives’ alertness and directed a thorough investigation and prosecution of the case.
Ndukwe emphasized the Command’s dedication to tackling human trafficking and urged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the Command’s Control Room at 08032003702, 08086671202, or the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre on 112.
