PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

Against the backdrop of poor funding and logistics, the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Calabar has appealed to public-spirited groups and individuals to support the feeding of long-staying patients.

Managing Director of the hospital, Dr Joseph Edet made the appeal when Cross River State Bishops’ Forum of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star visited the patients with foodstuffs, toilet rolls, detergents, toiletries, jars of milk and cash.

Dr. Edet disclosed that there are 22 long staying patients who are being fed by other patients in the hospital and the hospital management.

He stated that the hospital has a population of patients that is most vulnerable in the society, while calling for partnerships with private organisations and religious groups to enable them build homes for discharged patients.

“We could partner to build home for the less privileged in the society, mostly the patients who have been healed in the psychiatrist hospital but have been denied and rejected by their immediate families.”

He expressed happiness for the food items from the Bishops, describing the donations as a good gesture that will help assist the patients.

Praying for a sustained relationship, Edet called for regular interface to enable them assist the patients.

Leader of the team, Archbishop Alex Ukam said they too were touched by the plight of the patients, adding that the scriptures enjoined all to be of immense assistance to the less privileged, including the afflicted and hospital patients.
