The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has issued an alert for expected rainfall in parts of the FCT and neighboring states from Sunday to Tuesday.
Theacting Director-General of FEMD, Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, advised residents advised to take necessary precautions.
“We urge residents to avoid driving into pools of water and to wait for the water levels to recede before driving during downpours,” Mohammed said .
The FEMD boss also advised residents to switch off electrical appliances during the rain to avoid accidents.
“In the event of an emergency, residents should dial the 112 emergency toll-free number for assistance,” he added.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had predicted thunderstorms and rains across the country, with specific areas expected to experience cloudy mornings and afternoon thunderstorms. NiMet’s weather outlook revealed that thunderstorms with rains should be anticipated over parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa State, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau.
As the rains approach, FEMD is urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. “We are working to ensure the safety of all residents, and we appeal to them to cooperate with us by taking these simple precautions,” Mohammed emphasized.
