House of Representatives in session
By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja-
House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character has directed Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), to appear before it to respond to allegations of biased appointments in the federal civil service.
In a statement released on Thursday, the committee’s chairman, Rep. Idris Wase (APC-Plateau), explained that the summons was necessitated by Olaopa’s failure to attend previous invitations, which has caused significant dissatisfaction among committee members.
Wase cautioned that the FCSC chairman must appear in person on July 30, or face serious consequences under the committee’s constitutional authority.
“The committee is deeply displeased with the FCSC chairman’s repeated disregard for our invitations,” Wase declared. “Failure to comply with this final request will lead to stringent measures.”
Wase pointed out that Sections 14(3) and 14(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) mandate adherence to federal character principles to ensure balanced representation in federal government recruitment.
