
Seplat Energy which acquired the assets and liabilities of Mobil Producing Nigeria has announced the award of scholarship to 200 students mostly from the host community in Akwa Ibom.
The oil company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ogechukwu Udeagha, said so far 475 students have benefited from the scheme.
“So far, a total of 475 students have benefited from the scholarship, with 191 already graduated from the various secondary schools with boarding facilities.
Speaking during the award ceremony, Udeagha said “the the intention of the scholarship is to select (through merit-driven tests) brilliant pupils from public primary schools and sponsor them through secondary education at topnotch private secondary schools with boarding facilities in the state”.
The scholarship consultant, Akwa Sam, said the 200 beneficiaries have already resumed studies in the 9 selected private secondary schools.
He gave the breakdown as follows, Top Faith International School (25), Monef Secondary School (25), Ritman College (25), Tower of Ivory Schools (25), Rayfield International Schools (25), Nobles International Schools (25), Pegasus Secondary School (10), Divine Seeds Secondary School (20) and Beulah International Schools (20).
He announced that the top 427 candidates from the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Common Entrance Examinations would proceed to aptitude tests across the state’s Federal Constituencies. The tests will ultimately lead to the selection of the top 200 candidates, allocated according to each Local Government Area’s quota.
The 200 were distributed as follows: Ibeno (13 beneficiaries), Eket (12), Esit Eket (10), Onna (10), Mbo (10), Eastern Obolo (10), Mkpat Enin (10), Ikot Abasi (10) and 5 each from the other 26 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.
The scholarship covers all expenses including tuition fees, boarding fees, extramural classes, pocket moneys, all learning and dormitory items such as books, mattresses, boxes, uniform, clothing, etc., for a total of six non-repeating years.
Commissioner for Education, Ubong Inyang,who spoke at the ceremony praised Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU) for sustaining the scholarship program since inception by Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) in 2011.
He described education as an equaliser and as the greatest factor for a significant future of any society “.
Speaking on behalf of the schools, former military Governor of Ogun and Rivers State and proprietor of Beulah International Schools, Sam Enwang, spoke glowingly of the scholarship and its sponsors, requesting that it should be extended to cover the beneficiaries’ tertiary education.
