ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi
A 70-year old man and two others have been sentenced to death by stoning for engaging in homosexuality in Ningi, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The convicted persons: Mal. Haruna (70), Abdullahi Abubakar Beti (30) and Kamilu Ya’u (20), were sentenced by an Islamic Sharia Court sitting in Ningi, having pleaded guilty.
The case against the three condemned persons commenced on June 14th, 2022 when members of the Hisbah Vanguard operating in Ningi LGA through Adamu Dan Kafi, prosecuted the three offenders before the Sharia Court.
The Hisbah Vanguard told the court that the trio were arrested after committing the offense of homosexuality at Gwada village in Ningi LGA.
The trial Sharia Judge, Munka’ilu Sabo Ningi, after listening to the prosecution and offences brought against them, adjourned the case to Wednesday June 28th, 2022 for Judgement.
After hearing the statements by witnesses as well as admittance of guilt by the accused persons, the trial judge, Munka’ilu Sabo-Ningi, sentenced them to death by stoning.
According to him, this was based on the provisions of section 134 of Bauchi State penal law of 2001 as well as the provisions of Fiquhussunah Jizu’i number 2 at page 362.
