Shettima flags off 5bn palliative, 140 vehicles distribution in Sokoto

Food palliatives distributed to the vulnerable people by Sokoto State Government.

In continuation of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s 100 days in office, Vice President Kashim Shetima on Monday flagged off the distribution of 140 vehicles for mass transportation and food palliatives to the vulnerable persons in the state.

 

Governor Aliyu in his key note address, said the event is unique for them as a government, hence, it marks the launching of the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable people in the State.

 

“It also marks the beginning of distribution of mass transit vehicles, which include 20 Toyota Camry. We are also distributing another 50 set of 18 seater Toyota buses to the state transport sector to help cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

 

“This is in addition to another 40 Toyota Hilux and 30 Toyota Buffalo vehicles that will be distributed to the various security agencies in the state as part of our promise to assist in ensuring a safe state for all”, the governor said.

 

He said food palliatives which include – grains and others cost the Ssate government about 5billion 178 million naira, while the utility vehicles gulped 6 billion and 47 million naira only.

 

Giving reasons for such information, governor Ahmed Aliyi said it is in keeping to their promise of transparency and open governance to the people of the State.

 

The governor, while commending BUA Cement company for donating 10 brand new Hilux vehicles to the State government, however, warned the management of the State transport authority not to be reckless in using the vehicles adding, it’s a public trust that they must hold in high esteem.

 

Before flagging off the distribution, Vice President, Kashim Shetima, thanked Sokoto State governor for his foresight, saying there can never be development without security.

 

“The provision of palliative for the people of Sokoto is also a welcome development. I want to assure the people of Sokoto State that our President, Bola Tinubu is a leader with great passion for the people of Nigeria, hence the President will soon be coming up with policies and programmes that will cushion the effect of subsidy removal and better their lives

 

He also appealed to other organizations in Nigeria to emulate BUA Cement Company in fulfilling their Cooperate Social Responsibilities.

 

VP Shettima, who, laid foundation for the construction of 500 housing unit at Kalambaina in Wamakko local government area of the State, Sunday evening also commissioned the fly over bridge along Rijiyan Doruwa within the metropolis which was completed by the Governor Ahmed Aliyu led administration within 10 days on office.

 

Earlier, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Works and Transportation, Mohammed Idris Gobir, said the governor remains committed to the general welfare of the people of the state.

 

This according to him is evident in the purchase of vehicles, food stuffs and the already completed and ongoing developmental projects across the stat

While admitting that the former governor and leader of APC in the State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is the engine room behind their successes, the deputy governor divulged that all contracts so far awarded by the present administration were paid in full.

”Our mentor and leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is behind the successes of the government. He is the engine room of our administration. As a father, he is guiding us right.

‘All contracts so far awarded, construction, rehabilitation of roads and even the recent 500 housing units of which the foundation was laid by Vice President, Kashim Shetima have all been paid for completely” he said.

Dignitaries at the Gigibya Stadium, venue of the flag off include representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, Minister of State, Ibrahim Goronyo, Chief Judge of the State, Grand Khadi, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba Danbua, former governor and leader of APC in Sokoto, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former deputy governor of the State, Mukhtari Shagari and host of others from work and outside the State.
