Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the appointments of Abdullahi Maigwandu and Aliyu Muhammad Rabah as Chairman and Secretary of the Mobilisation, Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration Committee.
Addressing newsmen on Monday in Sokoto, the ADC Chairman in the state, Hon. Umar Faruk, and the Secretary, Yusuf Alkali, said their rejection was because no proper consultation was done with the state party leadership and the appointees were not properly registered members of the ADC through a democratic and transparent process before such appointments.
The chairman, in his claim, said Maigwandu was a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the immediate past People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of Aminu Tambuwal and was appointed and he resigned the day after his resignation from the PDP.
‘Similarly, Aliyu Muhammad Rabah also recently defected from the PDP before being appointed Secretary of the committee responsible for overseeing the revalidation of existing members and the registration of new members of the ADC in Sokoto State.
“We strongly reject these appointments and will not allow such actions to stand. We call on the national leadership of the party to refrain from decisions that could create confusion or crisis within the party.”
While affirming that such actions not only violate the party’s constitution but also undermine the authority of the duly recognised state leadership and disrespect loyal and faithful members of the ADC in Sokoto State.
‘We shall pursue all necessary legal action to reclaim the rights of genuine ADC members from those attempting to hijack the party structure.”
