Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has clarified that ‘stomach infrastructure’ entails providing sustainable services to enhance citizens’ livelihoods, rather than temporary handouts.
Speaking at a press conference in Awka on August 27, 2025, to commemorate Anambra’s 34th anniversary, Soludo emphasized long-term development over short-term relief.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Anambra was established on August 27, 1991, by former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, alongside eight other states.
Soludo stressed that true progress lies in prioritizing agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
“Stomach infrastructure is not about handing out cash or political appointments,” he declared.
“It’s about ensuring Anambra residents have access to essentials for a dignified life and a path out of poverty.”
He highlighted his administration’s efforts, including distributing over 2.6 million palm and coconut seedlings to 180,000 households, providing free education in public schools, and offering free antenatal and delivery services in government hospitals.
Soludo also noted the recruitment of over 1,000 health workers and 8,115 teachers, the implementation of an N82,000 minimum wage, and the clearance of pension and gratuity arrears.
Additionally, over 5,000 youths have been empowered, with 8,000 more set to graduate soon, and 600 kilometers of roads have been commissioned out of 800 planned.
“Deploying public resources to create lasting societal value is far better than distributing money,” Soludo stated, emphasizing values of hard work and integrity as the foundation of Anambra’s growth at 34.
The governor also outlined achievements in security, urban renewal, governance, and economic development, urging residents to support state policies.
“Together, let’s build the Anambra of our dreams,” he said, pledging to deliver the dividends of democracy tirelessly. (NAN)
