Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa has called for a stop on the cyber bullying of Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi over his performance at the finals of the AFCON 2023.

Ahmed, in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, said the defeat of Nigeria by host Cote d’Ivoire at the finals was a collective act of the team.

“We know that we are very disappointed with the result but there’s nothing we can do about this. That’s what happens in football.

“I don’t think he deserves what he is getting now because I think we have done our nation proud. So, we think everyone has to be proud of each and everyone of us.

“Losing a game is undoubtedly tough, but targeting a single player for the team’s shortcomings is unfair and unjust.

“We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Alex gave his all on the field, just like every member of our squad,” he said.

Similarly, Victor Osimhen also called for the stopping of the cyber bullying of Iwobi, saying it was a bitter pill for anyone to swallow individually.

“Sometimes we make mistakes. Sometimes we have a good game, and we’ll get the hype. But of course, when you criticize you have to be constructive when doing this type of things.

“I think to be fair, what they have done to Alex is out of this world, it’s not good. They should also look at his mental health because there are some of us that can take this to heart and then keep on grinding.

“We have rallied round him, we have spoken to him individually and collectively. So, I think he’s a strong dude and is ready to continue to give his all for his nation,” he said.

Victor said that the AFCON tournament would serve as a great test for the teams preparation towards the World Cup which is the ultimate goal in football career.

“I think now we just finished a tournament that is one of the most hardest we have played in since I started my career.

“And now we have to go back to our clubs to keep up the good work and hopefully we get called up by our national team and give our all also.

“But of course the goal is to get the ticket to the World Cup and I think we have the team and we have squad to achieve this.”(NAN)
