
An open well

A 2-year old girl has tragically died after falling into a deep well located at Saki Town, Oyo State.
It was learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 1:43 p.m. in the Sango area of the town.
The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr. Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incidence in a state issued on Wednesday in Ibadan.
He said a rescue operation was swiftly carried out, but unfortunately, the girl was recovered dead.
“The agency’s officers quickly responded to the scene and engaged our rescue equipment.
CFM Adediran Jacob entered the well for search and rescue operations,” Akinwande explained.
He said the cause of the incident is still unknown, and the Fire Service’s Post Incident Investigation Team is conducting an investigation.
Akinwande urged the public to take safety measures to protect their wells and septic pits from free accessibility to prevent such tragedies.
“We urge the public to always observe all safety measures in protecting their wells and septic pits from free accessibility so as to avoid being a death trap,” he advised.
In a separate incident, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency also recovered two dead bodies from a truck accident in Ibadan, which occurred due to brake failure.
The agency continues to emphasize the importance of safety and caution in preventing such incidents.
