Weapons recovered by troops
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), under the Joint Task Force North West, have sustained intense military pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region, recording notable operational successes during coordinated offensives conducted between January 21 and 22, 2026.
The sustained operations, which spanned multiple flashpoints across the Joint Operations Area, underscored the force’s growing responsiveness and intelligence-driven approach to counterterrorism in the North West.
Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, announced this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the military, troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, supported by Department of State Services (DSS) assets, encountered terrorists during a fighting patrol at Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area. One terrorist was neutralised during the engagement, while others fled into nearby forests after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene included six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles, dealing another setback to the operational capacity of the fleeing terrorists.
In a related operation, troops of 1 Brigade, working alongside the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, acted on credible intelligence indicating that wounded terrorists were receiving medical attention within Bingi Forest. The troops located and destroyed a makeshift medical facility used by the terrorists, effectively disrupting a critical component of their logistics and support network.
Military authorities described the operation as a significant blow to terrorist survival structures, noting that the destruction of such facilities weakens their ability to regroup and sustain prolonged attacks.
The latest successes highlight the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across the North West, as security forces continue to leverage timely intelligence and rapid response tactics in ongoing operations.
